Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks, Volume 6

Well it is that time again.  Quiltmaker has put out another issue in their 100 Blocks series - Volume 6.  These magazines are so fun!  Can you guess which is mine?

Well, here is a hint.  I've had a thing for aqua and blue Christmas designs lately.  Yes, mine is the white-on-aqua snowflake in the second row.  It is on page 42 and is called "Winter's Jewel."

I enjoyed making this.  The applique and piecing are really simple but, because of the color choices, they look bold.  I used some fabrics from Laurie Wisbrun's Brrr collection and also some neutrals by Patrick Lose, both of which are manufactured by Robert Kaufman.

Winter's Jewel can be arranged in many ways.

Quilt 1 - no border

Quilt 2 - on point with white border
Snowflake Runner or Wall Hanging

Quiltmaker is giving away a free copy of the magazine to a reader here! To enter leave a comment telling me which of these statements is a lie:
  1. I worked in a wood shop for 2 years.
  2. I once had to get stitches because I impaled myself with a plastic bagel knife.
  3. I am an avid gardener.
Winners will be chosen from posts with the right answer using the random number generator.  First prize will get the magazine and second will get a free copy of one of my new patterns, either Palace Doors, Fizz, Sunflower Row, or Harlequin.

Deadline to enter is midnight on Friday, November 9th.

Be sure to check out all the other blocks and enter to win more giveaways on Quiltmaker's blog!

Happy sewing!
Amanda

  2. Gorgeous block! I bet you are not a gardener because all your time is spent creating beauty with your designs instead of with plants! Total guess...and thanks for the chance!

  3. Hmmm...I totally believe #2, because that's the kind of thing I would do. Since your patterns often have a garden element, I'm going to guess #3 is true. So, fingers crossed, I'll say #1 is the lie.

  18. Just from personal experience, there's not much time to garden if you want to quilt, so my guess would be #3.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I like what you design so I will assume we have some similarities. #3 is a lie because I don't enjoy garden work. Hope I am right! By the way, I have never had stitches from a plastic bagel knife but I HAVE sewn over my finger.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Just a guess, but who has time to garden when making such beautiful quilts. Love the table runner. Thanks for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I looked through a few old blogs, but found no clues. So, I'm going to say they're all true!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I think number one is a lie. Most quilters have something to do with a garden because of the beautiful color combinations that it presents

    ReplyDelete
  52. I am choosing #1. I love your design.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'm thinking that you are NOT an avid gardener - You're too busy making gorgeous quilts for us to drool over!

  56. This is a little like shooting a fish in a barrel. They all sound like they could be lies or the truth. I'm going to guess that you did NOT work in a woodshop.

  57. I am going to see that #3, an avid gardener. is the lie. Your interest listed on your blog does not list that. I did enjoy seeing your block. It is indeed a jewel.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I pick #2. I can't see you doing something like that. I enjoy your blog and your interviews with Madame Samm. Love all the blocks that you have shared with all of us. I, too, also like the colors red and aqua and again you have inspired us again with another block, this time for Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks, Volume 5. Thank you for all that you do for inspiration and giving all of your followers a chance to win this Collctor's Edition.

  62. This is a great color combo for your block, Amanda. I don't believe you're a gardener.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I haven't been following long enough to have read prior posts, so I will guess that number 1 is false. Love this block and the idea of making a christmas quilt with it.

    Debbie

    ReplyDelete
  64. I guess I will say you worked ina wood shop for a couple years . But gardening would be a second choice because of colors. I love the designs.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I'm betting the lie is the avid gardner. You obviously love flowers and nature, but somehow it seems that gardening takes too much time. You are too prolific in designing to spend lots of time gardening.
    Lynn B.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I think #3 is false. I haven't seen many gardening photos on your blog so I think your beautiful flowers are in your patterns.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I'm going to go with #3. Don't see how you would have time to garden. Love your block and I'm thinking it is great in a table runner. Thats the size of items I like to make and quilt. Congrats.

  68. I want to say the 3rd is a a lie, re 'avid gardener', because I love the idea that you worked in a wood shop. And I like the Snowflake Runner -- very nice!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Could they all be lies? Your beautiful designs are the flowers you cultivate, you work with fabric instead of wood and hopefully a plastic knife would be safe in your hands!

    ReplyDelete
  73. I don't really know which is a lie so I'll go with #3.

  83. I am going to guess #3 is the lie. You ARE NOT an avid gardener (takes too much time away from quilting).

I am betting putting together wood pieces to make stuff is just like piecing fabric at least in a graphic sort of talent way.

The stitches is something I would do too ;-)

Love your block - table runner!

I like the preview pattern Palace Doors too!

  84. I think 3 is a lie. Love your block!!!

  98. Boy, I don't really know for sure. I read some of your blogs and couldn't decide. I think you like flowers so I am going to guess # 3 because I like flowers too, but am not an avid gardener and I think woodworking and quilting have a lot in common and I can understand needing stitches from a plastic knife. (fingers crossed here)

    ReplyDelete
  99. Having no clue, I'll guess that you are not an avid gardener.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Number 3 is a lie. I think you are too busy with your family and quilting to be in the garden much.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I'll guess that #1 is the lie. Your block is very nice. I like the colour combination but I don't use it for Christmas usually.

  102. I'm not really sure. Maybe number 2?

    ReplyDelete
  103. I tried to read your profile and "about me" section, but my computer wouldnt let me. dont understand these things. So I just have to guess #2 is the lie. I have worked in a woodshop and I love to garden myself...would love to win one of your patterns!

    ReplyDelete
  104. I'm going to guess that it is #3, just because 1&2 sound unusual and I love gardening. How can you not like it? lol

  142. Amanda, as much as your gorgeous designs are based on a floral theme I don't think you are an avid gardener. Am I right?

    ReplyDelete
  143. I guess that #3 is a lie, because "avid gardener" is such a common expression, but the other two are much more specific.

I love your new block! How on earth is it EASY to do that intricate snowflake applique, though? You mean, easy for quilty goddesses like you, or is there some trick that makes it easy for us mortals as well? ;-)
