Quiltermaker's 100 Blocks Volume 3 Blog Tour!

Hi everyone!

Well, the blog tour for Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks is well underway and this is my day to talk about my block (and to giveaway a little something extra - see details below)!  I used Swiss Chocolate sample yardage, which I had just received at the time the block was designed.  You'll find the pattern on page 46 of Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks Volume 3, which should be out on newstands next week.

A lot of you know that Swiss Chocolate was designed in two color stories: Mocha and Chocolate.  Since I used Mocha for the Swiss Chocolate quilt in Quiltmaker's March/April 2011 issue, I decided to use the Chocolate color story for this block.  Here she is...

A few of the prints in this collection really lent themselves to fussy-cut pieces, and I decided to make use of this.  I had a hard time deciding between the stripe and the blossom print, but in the end I chose to use the stripe.

I've heard from many people who used Swiss Chocolate in home decor projects, so I thought it would be great to show you a table runner using this block x 3, with variations.

I'll be kitting up one of these table runners (your choice!) for three lucky winners.  The first winner will also receive a copy of Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks, Volume 3., courtesy of Quiltmaker.  I can't absolutely promise that the packages will go out before Market (still sewing like mad around here), but I'll try.  If not, they will go out the following week.  To enter:
  1. Become a follower of my blog and leave me a comment telling me what your favorite quilting technique is.  If you already are a follower, leave a comment about your favorite technique too.  (My kids will be forever grateful for the follower part because, if I reach 250 followers, we get to go out for ice cream!)  Also let me know what table runner kit you would choose.
  2. If you comment anonymously, please leave your contact information in the post so that I can contact you!
  3. Only one entry per person, please.
  4. The deadline to enter the giveaway is on midnight Saturday, May 7th.
And remember that Quiltmaker will be giving away a yard of each print of THE ENTIRE LINE OF SWISS CHOCOLATE courtesy of Robert Kaufman, along with other great prizes, later in the week, so check out their site.   There are some great giveaways, along with links to other designers' fabulous sites!

Have fun and happy sewing!
Amanda

  6. My favorite technique is paper piecing. It is so easy to make a picture that way. I also like traditional pieced patterns. I like the chocolate striped runner the best. I hope you get your follower count so the children can have their ice cream.

  7. I am already a follower and I love both the chocolate runners. At the moment my favourite bit is FMQ I am only just learning but when I manage to do a flower or a heart it feels really good!!!!!

  10. I like your block choice and I really enjoyed seeing the table runner options. My favorite technique in quilting is actually the fabric selection. Thinking of new ways to put colors together and stretching my boundaries of what is 'acceptable' - even stretching the limits of my likes and dislikes.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I love piecing - putting bits of fabric back together into lovely patterns - the best fun ever!!!!
I already follow and I just love the browns and blues together - I'm a mocha fan! Congratulations on having your block published and thanks for the giveaway chance.

  31. Hi Amanda! Love your new Swiss Chocolate line of fabarics.

One of my favorite quilting tips: I recently completed a baby quilt with hexagons on the edge where a regular binding would not do.
I dedided to make a facing like one would do for a neckline or arm hole in garment sewing. I made large stips and sewed them to the edge of the quilt (fabric right sides together). I then clipped the corners of each hexagon and trimmed the seams carefully. I turned the facing inside out and it turned out beautifully.

    Thanks!
    Granny Franny

  36. Take those kids out for ice cream!I like the Mocha Striped Runner. My favorite quilting technique is to take it to my friend, Millie at http://milliesquilting.blogspot.com and have her quilt it on her longarm. :)

  37. LOVE the Chocolate Blossum runner and truly loved this line of fabric. - I will folow you. Favorite quilting technique - I have my quilt professionally quilted so I can spend my time piecing and creating.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Love the Swiss Chocolate line. All the variations of the runner really get my creative juices flowing!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Chocolate Striped is my favorite runner because of the pink stripe...it looks very striking. My favorite quilting technique is needleturn applique, but I'm starting to be a big fan of Cindy Blackberg's stamped templates for hand piecing...they make it much more accurate and portable.

P.S. Looks like you're getting close to taking the kids out for ice cream!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I've been getting your newsletter but have now become a follower - kids need ice cream you know...

My choice would be chocolate blossom if I am lucky enough. Delicious fabrics!

My favourite way to quilt is machine piecing (for speed) but I have a secret fondness for the old fashioned template piecing by hand (American style - not English)

    ReplyDelete
  42. oooh I love the striped runners. I don't know if I could choose between the two! I would actually like the chocolate with the blue stripe! That would be perfect for me! Dana.

I really like the table runner with the blossom fabric in the pink and brown colors!

  49. Wow. Just beautiful. I think if my arm was twisted really hard and I was forced to make a decision between all the options I'd choose Chocolate Blossom Runner. I really love them all but that one just looks more 'rich' to me.

Hmm favorite quilting technique? I honestly do not have think I can point to just one specific technique as I like the entire process other than the toughest one of all; the one that's the toughest part in my mind is choosing WHICH quilt to make next. LOL

Tell the kids to enjoy their ice cream! I have followed your blog for awhile now but never clicked that 'follow' button so now I'm a 'real' follower as opposed I guess to just being a stalker? LOL

  57. My favorite quilting technique is "quilt as you go". A friend taught me the technique and I just love it. The "Mocha Blossom Runner" is my favorite.

    ReplyDelete
  58. If looking at other people's quilts was a technique I'd say that was my all-time favorite! The thrill of discovering fabrics and colours that make sense together, the design process might otherwise rate the most enjoyment for me. Then, the actual quilting and binding because the vision has nearly been realised, many times very different to what I'd expected. The in-between stuff is mainly hard work and frustration as I try to get points to match etc... Thanks for asking...your work is superb, I especially like the bold beauty of Chocolate Stripe, it's not hard to imagine that in our home? God bless you.

  59. What a lovely block. There's just something about pink and brown that I absolutely love!

  135. Chocolate Blossom runner appeals to my romantic side! Are your kids happy yet? Have a successful "Market". Nice block design, reminds me of a box filled with chocolates. Sandi

  137. I Love those chocolate fabrics especially the one with blue. Favorite method is usually the one I'm working with (they all have positive/negative) I enjoy learning new things.
