You have to dress the part...

A girl simply must have a skirt to match her photo album(s). She might need two skirts to match two albums. Or maybe three would be better. After all, we have scraps to use! (The third Ambrosia quilt went to the quilter this weekend and I am moving on to number 4, which is the Robert Kaufman complimentary pattern that will be available here and at your favorite shop.)

So this weekend we revamped the "Twirly Skirt" pattern and made up samples in the Ambrosia spring colorway...

and the Ambrosia summer colorway...

Do you think she needs a matching barette?

Then we made a skirt using Robert Kaufman's Mimosa fabric by S.E.I. because it matched my model's rose leotard perfectly. Oh no - we don't have a matching album!

My very good-natured (and also very captive) model put up with me taking pictures of her in the 105 degree heat. Thanks, model!

Making scrapbooks... literally.

Yesterday I was cutting what seemed like my millionth 2" diamond for a pattern that I am very excited about - it will be making an appearance in a magazine this winter - when I decided I HAD to make a scrapbook. Or maybe two.

My neglected pile of photographs did not inspire me, although they should have, since they are in dire need of organization.

No, the source of my newfound obsession was the scraps on our floor.

So, I picked up a couple of inexpensive 7" x 10" photo albums at Target and pieced together some covers out of Ambrosia. I then quilted them with some scrap batting that I had leftover from another project.  I stitched in the ditches, added some simple vertical striping, put on the embroidery foot, and it was off to the races!

Who knows? Maybe this will inspire me to sort through photos. (Not likely, if there are still more fabric scraps available.)  I will make this pattern available on this site soon, by the time Ambrosia ships - so you can make a scrapbook to record summer memories or give to a friend.

A New Look

The beautiful colors of summer blooms, like these hydrangeas, inspired me to redesign my website. Go take a look if you have a minute.

The links on the patterns section will not be active until I finish sewing them in my new Ambrosia fabrics.  I will post them individually as soon as they are ready.  Hope everyone is having a fantastic summer!

Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July, everyone!

This is the most patriotic-looking quilt I have ever sewn so I thought it was an appropriate photo for this day. It was a quilt of the month that was featured a few years ago through Keepsake Quilting and I made it for our son. It also has the distinction of being the quilt that I spent the most time "un-sewing". Before this quilt I used to be afraid of intricate piecing, but with a block-a-month pace I was determined to learn how to get those points to line up correctly (at least theoretically), hence the "un-sewing". There is nothing like a good summer project!
