Fabrilicious Eggs

A couple of years ago I saw an amazing display of intricately painted blown eggs by an artist at the North Carolina State Fair. They were so delicate and beautiful. I wish I could remember the artist's name.

The dozen eggs that my daughter and I made this weekend out of styrofoam and fabric are not delicate, but we think they are quite beautiful. (Our no-sew method was messy, but quite forgiving.)

Of course, we can't take credit for all this loveliness.
These colorful spring fabrics and ribbons would brighten anyone's day.

Here is a pattern for dyeing your own Fabrilicious Eggs. Enjoy!

Spring is here!

Over the past few weeks I've kept quite busy with fabric submissions for Robert Kaufman. Quite suddenly it feels like spring. That seems to be how is in the southeast part of the country. Fall is gloriously long but we seem to move from winter to summer in a blink!

The other day I stopped in at Creative Sewing and Vacuums in south Charlotte.

They have a lovely selection of fabric and were quite patient in cutting eigth yard pieces for me.

After this next deadline, the kids and I plan on "dying" fabric eggs, so we needed a nice variety of color and patterns. Once we work out what we are doing, I will post a pattern here. Have a great week everyone!

"Springtime Yo-Yo Pillow"

A free pattern for my "Springtime Yo-Yo Pillow" is now available. It is the perfect project to use up all those beautiful bits of fabric that we have in our stash and can't bear to get rid of.

Happy sewing!

Cinderella!

"Cinderella", a ballet put on by North Carolina Dance Theatre, has consumed much of our lives this past week and will continue to do so next week - in a good way. Since our daughter and some of her friends are little animals in the show, I have seen it a few times. What a feast for the eyes! (And as a mom, I am not prejudiced, of course.) The costumes - the brocades and sparkley jewels - are unforgettable. And of course that's on top of the dancing. Gorgeous.

The parent guild mans a boutique during the shows. The proceeds benefit North Carolina Dance Theatre's School of Dance. Since it is, after all, "Cinderella", we went for a completely girlie look. Very pink and pretty. I designed some t-shirts for the show I thought you might want to see.

And every little ballerina needs a bag...

A very talented mom named Pat Ozmeral puts everything together into a great display with the help of her sister. Now, as much as I love drawing I do not have a decorating bone in my body. Pat amazes me. Look at her work...

I did design a display for the school - we went for bright and colorful. (Photos in the display by Peter Zay.)

A very happy weekend with happy kids.

In the meantime I did find a use for those yo-yos. Next time, hopefully, a free pattern!

Have a great week!
